Client:
World leading military component manufacturers who design and develop bespoke highly complex components for a global customer base are seeking a Modeller to join a professional multi-disciplined team.
Responsibilities
Characterising the properties of ingredients and finished materials.
Formulating polymeric insulation / inhibition materials to meet design requirements.
Formulating double base and composite propellants to meet design requirements.
Developing associated material and component manufacturing processes.
Qualifying materials for use in accordance with recognised standards.
Identifying and implementing material improvements, e.g. cost savings.
Investigating and resolving material and associated process problems.
Routine clearance of all materials for production.
Monitoring for obsolete materials and qualifying replacements.
Managing the materials team, e.g. staff development.
Drivin! g the development of improved materials and associated manufacturing processes.
Knowledge:
Polymer Chemistry including solutions, polymerisation, phase behavior, thermal and mechanical behavior, fracture and toughening, effect of additives and degradation.
Moulding, extrusion and casting of polymeric based components.
Adhesive bonding of metallic and polymeric components.
Surface treatments and coatings.
Standard laboratory tests for physical and chemical properties, e.g. viscosity, and possibly non standard tests for erosion, mechanical, ballistic and bond properties.
Manufacture of energetic formulations from small to large scale and associated hazards and tests, e.g. sensitiveness.
Production process control and improvement techniques (e.g. SPC).
Safety management (e.g. COSHH, MHDS).
Project management and leadership
Team supervision / management
Additional Skills:
Interest and aptitude in all as! pects of materials and chemistry.
Ability to communicate and work effectively with other specialists.
Good interpersonal and team working skills.
Working to customer requirements and timescales.
You will also benefit from holding an authorised security clearance to work on MOD projects.
Proficient in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Salary:
