The NHS in Worcestershire is looking at ways to provide high quality, safe and affordable hospital services into the future and is currently in the process of a Joint Service Review. The main focus of this review is our acute hospital services, from the Alexandra, Kidderminster and Worcestershire Royal Hospitals, and specific acute services that are provided at some of the community hospitals. We are also looking at the wider health and care system, particularly the links between acute hospitals, community services and GP surgeries.

We are looking for an enthusiastic person for the post of Medical Laboratory Assistant Band 3 in the Haematology and Blood Transfusion Department to join a multi-disciplined team. The duties will include preparation of samples for analysis, entry of request details into the laboratory computer and some clerical and office type work. Analytical tasks including set up analysers and routine maintenance. Processing Antenatal screening testing in Blood transfusion will form a large portion of this role. The role also includes routine running of the Haematology section of the laboratory based at Kidderminster with support from Worcester based Blood Sciences team and Biochemistry BMS at Kidderminster. This post will also play an active role in the maintenance of documentation for MHRA and CPA standards. You may be required to work in Pathology Specimen reception where you will receive Pathology specimens, visitors, couriers and patients! after suitable training.

There may be opportunity / requirement to work in Blood Sciences reception between 08.00 and 22.00, Monday to Friday, plus weekends and bank holidays on a rotational basis.

Communication with other NHS professionals and members of the public including patients and visitors will also be part of your duties. The candidates must have previous MLA experience / skills or customer service skills.

The successful candidate will be encouraged to partake further appropriate training including to NVQ level 3 in laboratory and associated technical activities.
