Kidderminster College require 2 ICT! Desktop and Server Support Specialists to be responsible for providing network and administrative duties in support of a fast-running, reliable computer network that will offer a quality platform to support the curriculum and administrative College Networks. This will involve administering both Local and Wide Area networks equipment/software, implementing necessary measures to limit the systems downtime. Supervising ICT Technicians in the maintenance and technical support to optimise system performance of all network User Data files, E-mail and college applications.

Main duties:
- Be active in the safe and efficient working of the computers, networks, and telephone systems, including regular safety checks.
- Control access to all systems, regularly checking for unauthorised use of all systems and in conjunction with the ICT Operations manager acting upon any security breaches.
- To ensure all systems are protected against threats by applying Operating System updates and anti-viral application deployment
- To ensure all College ICT systems are protected by backup systems in accordance with the College’s Backup and disaster recovery polices.
- Collaborate with external parties when required to ensure that the systems are running as expected and to develop the College systems in line with its objectives.
- To ensure external websites and the Learning Platform are working as appropriate.
- Provide network administration services, including but not! limited to setting up new users, maintaining email distribution lists, maintaining the user databases, password security, managing access policies and monitoring performance.
- Install new PC workstations and printers if required, relocate existing ones and dismantle, dispose of old ones, Assist with the installation of servers as required. Install operating system upgrades as required.
Required technical and professional knowledge:
- Good standard of education (Including GCSE English and Maths grade C or equivalent) and qualified to Level 4 (Level 4 Professional Diploma, Professional Certificate, Professional Award, International Diploma in Computer Studies, City and Guilds Licentiateship or Certificate of Higher Education)
- Good self-management and organisational skills
- Attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure
- Microsoft Servers (Incl! uding 2008 R2, Server 2003)
- Windows XP and Windows 7
- Open source solutions (Debian, RedHat derivatives etc)
- Good working knowledge of Mac OS
