This is working with clients whom have learning difficulties
You will need to provide a range of personal, social, and practical caring tasks as required for the Service Users
To work within the specification of Care Plans drawn up by Care Co-ordinators in consultation with the Service Users so that there is partnership with the assessors and purchases. All staff working for Care Avenues must work proactively for the equality of the serv! ice so that each Service User is respected for their individua! l needs, choices and dignity. To assist the Company in developing itâs culturally sensitive service as an integral part of the provision of Home Care and encourage the service users who wish to remain independent and their chosen life style.
Duties will vary depending on the needs and wishes of each individual client but may include
- The provision of personal care in a sensitive manner to all Service Users and support carers who may wish to continue their carerâs role. Personal care will include assisting Service Users to prepare for bed, get up, partial or total body washing, toileting and dressing, to administer Medication if required.
- Carrying out domestic tasks including housework, preparation of meals etc. This may also include assisting the Service Users to carry out these tasks where this supports their wishes and helps the Service User to retain their independence, dignity and status.
- Shopping for the Service User. Oft! en the client will nominate particular shops which are to be visited and will provide a list of what is required. Receipts should always be kept and the Home Care Assistant is responsible for handling receipts, along with the correct change back to the Service User.
- From time to time, Social care workers are requested to assist Service Users in their money management and finances. For example, they may be asked to collect pensions or pay bills on behalf of the Service User. This will only occur when this is incorporated in the individual care Plan drawn up by the Care Co-ordinator of Social Services and will require the care worker to issue receipts.
- Social care workers are not required to and must not carry out nursing tasks and procedures unless they have been agreed in the specification of the contract. The giving of routine medicines will be expected, providing this has medical approval and the Care manager is satisfied that the task can be carried out! safely and sensitively.

All staff must obtain their NVQ Level 2 qualification and the company runs continuous in-house training courses to support this. In addition candidates will attend College one day per week and have allocated assessor to assist them to achieve the Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care including Maths and English Functional Skills at Level 1.

Important Other Information
In order to meet the individual needs of the service users, work is available 365 days a year. While we try to accommodate each Social care workers availability for work, a certain degree of flexibility is essential. A carer will be expected to work unsocial hours including evening, weekends and Bank Holidays. A higher rate of pay is paid for working Saturdays and Sundays and Bank holidays.
The current National Minimum Wage (NMW) for apprentices from the 1st October 2012 is per hour. Thi! s applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged over 19 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. The new NMW applies to time working plus time spent training as this is also part of the Apprenticeship. Anyone not covered by this age category above will be entitled to the NMW appropriate for their age
